Summary

Facial and dental injuries are a relatively common occurrence in football. A good understanding of the relevant dental and facial anatomy should allow a clinician to be able to manage these injuries appropriately. In most cases, treatment should involve an assessment from a dentist.

Mouthguards should be encouraged, as they are very effective at reducing the risk of both facial and dental injuries. Custom-fitted, pressure-laminated mouthguards are the best available option.
